Background
This detail in a masonry veneer wall is known as a weep hole. The presence of the hole corresponds with an inboard flashing which directs water out of the wall. By directing water out of the wall the incidence of efflorescence and spalling can be reduced. Such weep holes can also function as a means of pressure-equalization for purposes of the open rainscreen. In fact, this wall is an open rainscreen. What are the necessary elements of an open rainscreen wall?
